Kham Vay. Ung,  D.P.M

Dr. Kham Vay. Ung is a Doctor of Podiatric Medicine, Foot and Ankle Surgeon, and Diabetic Foot Specialist. He is well respected by his peers and Native Americans for his extraordinary efforts in treating diabetic ulcer patients. He is on the cutting edge of wound management, and works extensively with chronic and diabetic foot complications to prevent amputations. He lectures extensively across the globe on the subject.

Dr. Ung obtained his education from Comell College, University of Iowa, and University of Osteopathic Medicine & Health Science College of Podiatric Medicine. He is Board Certified in the Prevention and Treatment of Diabetic Foot Wounds by the American Board of Medical Specialties in Podiatry, and a Fellow by the American Professional Wound Care Association.

Dr. Ung is also Board Certified in Lower Extremity Medicine and Surgery and has been granted the title Diplomate by the American Board of Lower Extremity Surgery.

He has been an Assistant Professor of Podiatric Medicine and Surgery, a Director of Podiatric Residency Training Programs, and Chief of Podiatry in a Public Health Service Hospital. He is a Consultant to Indian Health Services and to many Native American Diabetes Programs throughout the United States.

Dr. Ung is Chief Foot and Ankle Surgeon for the Foot and Ankle Clinic, P.C., Center for Limb Salvage and Wound Management in Sioux City, Iowa.

Dr. Ung has earned many honors such as:

Awarded Most Outstanding Student in Orthopedics by the American College of Foot Orthopedics.

Outstanding Minority Health Provider Award, year 2000, Office of Minority Health & Human Services / Nebraska Minority Public Health Associations.

Special Recognition for Physician and Educator, year 1995, Wagner I.H.S.

Awarded Physician of the Year 1992 by the Aberdeen Area Indian Health Services, Winnebago U.S.P.H.S. Hospital, Department of Health and Human Services.

He has served on the Diabetes Oversight Committee for the State of Iowa, and served as Co-Chainnan on the Physician’s Advisory Board, National Republican Congressional Committee.

Dr. Ung is a man of many accomplishments: he is a global lecturer, developed many research and intervention diabetic foot programs, written various news articles and publications, and served in several Missionary Clinics in under developed countries throughout the world.

Dr. Ung was born in Vientaine, Laos, holds a black belt in Martial Arts, and is a dedicated husband, father and physician.
